Good Soda AlternativeJul 20, 2012
By Risa In my effort to rid my all-American diet of high fructose corn syrup (found in almost all major sodas sold in the States, and everything else), I've been buying San Pellegrino sparkling drinks for about six months now. I'm very partial to this orange flavor as well as the blood orange flavor as they're not as bitter as the lemon flavor, and still satisfy the craving I occasionally get for something sweet. I might also add for the benefit of my Jewish friends: the drinks are kosher.
Admittedly, it's not the healthiest thing to drink - there's still a ton of sugar (though it also advertises that it's made up of 16% orange juice), but if you're going to choose a sugar-laden drink, better it be this than a can of high fructose corn syrup.
It's pretty tasty alone, but a bit of vodka or rum works well with it too.

Disclaimer: I get these locally, so am not going to delve into areas like how shipping costs make this expensive. My focus is on the product itself. Compared to the San Pellegrino Aranciata Rossa (Blood Orange) Sparkling Water, which is bitter (in a good way), this one is light and sweet. It's perfect on a hot humid day.
As noted by others this (and the rest of the juice flavored sparkling waters from San Pellegrino) have a high sugar and calorie content. At 140 calories and 32 grams of sugar this is not a drink you want to toss down one after another if you are watching your caloric or sugar intakes. Put another way, a 12 ounce can of Classic Coke contains less calories (90) and sugar (27 grams). I am saying this to show a stark comparison, not to promote Coke (which I do not drink at all.) Just be aware of the nutritional values and then enjoy a can when you want to treat yourself.
What I love is the flavors of Italy in the can. This has the sparkling mineral waters from Northern Italy's Lombardia region and the citrus of Sicily. To my palate it's a perfect combination.
See the photo that I uploaded at the top of this page and you will note the color. It's not artificially orange, but natural as though you used fresh oranges and a juicer to squeeze them. It's the natural look and flavor that keeps me addicted.
See the photo I uploaded at the top of this page for a visual of how the juice color is a natural, pale as though you extracted it from fresh oranges. No artificial orange coloring was used, which is a plus in my opinion.
Long-time Favourite DrinkSep 25, 2012
By Nicholas Moses San Pellegrino Aranciata has been a favourite drink of mine for years. I've never much been a soft drink fan, but I enjoy the combination of fruit juice and carbonation that Aranciata offers. It's sweet enough that it tastes great, but doesn't taste chemical or artificial in any way, and doesn't include HFCS. It also tastes pretty good on the rocks, even after they start to melt.
And speaking of drinking it on the rocks - Aranciata is a great mixer! Try making a vodka screwdriver with it instead of orange juice sometime and you'll see what I mean. The other flavours that San Pellegrino offers are great as well - Limonata and Blood Orange are excellent. One note, though - if you can, buy it in the little glass bottles. They have a neat shape and are much more fun than the cans - although it's worth noting that the cans are much nicer than soda cans.
