GreatMay 04, 2008
By Emmly Chances are, if you're not European, you will not like this. It is a very thick, sour milk (lapte batut in Romanian). :o)
Growing up on it, I was very happy to find it here in the states. You can usually find it at Whole Foods, Wild Oats or in the gourmet section at Safeway/Vons.
The regular tastes much better than the low fat, but it's still very thick and sour. They also make it in Vanilla and berries, Blueberry I think.
My husband, who is American, says it tastes like milk that's gone bad. I happen to disagree. :o)

Good stuff but a little too expensiveNov 01, 2010
By Gosha I have not tried the plain one but the berry one taste very good. I found them on sale at Kroger's and bought 6 bottles. They taste like yogurt but a little bit more sour. And it is liquid. Love it and would recommend. But the original price is way too expensive, I think. 3$ a bottle is would be about right.

Flavored ones are much betterJan 06, 2008

I purchased this product for it's probiotics, but found it difficult to disguise the sour taste. Lifeway's flavored products were a much better option. This product can make a good substitute for sour cream as far as taste goes. It has a much thinner consistancy though.

Good StuffSep 14, 2009
By irsayaj This is the first and only kefir brand that I've tried. I have not had the flavored products, but I prefer the sour and plain taste. My family is Indian and we are used to making yogurt at home. Store bought plain yogurt is usually too flat for me, but this plain kefir has the right taste, similar to the yogurt I miss from home.
The bubbly feeling might take some time to get used to, however. It's very good cold, with a tiny bit of salt, like plain/salt lassi.

Recommended in the 17 Day Diet BookJan 06, 2012
By L. M. Keefer If you're looking for a great, nutritious liquid yogurt type product, you might like to try this lowfat kefir. I learned about kefir in the book The 17 Day Diet: A Doctor's Plan Designed for Rapid Results. A nutritionist recommended having protein for breakfast and combining protein with fruit. I love to make fruit smoothies with this: one banana, one cup frozen berries, 1/2 cup kefir and 1/2 cup berry juice. The protein keeps you from getting hungry.
I also love to buy this in fruit flavors when I don't have time to make a smoothie in the morning. I've tried the peach, pomegranate and raspberry and they are delicious. They are probiotic with 10 different kinds of bacteria and naturally cultured. Kefir provides 25% of Vitamin D, 30% Calcium and 11g of Protein. It's a great breakfast, lunch or snack option. A cup is about 140 calories.
