A taste of Iraq in AmericaMar 13, 2011
By ShadowGyrlBrice I first came across Alwazah Tea while on my second tour to Iraq. Some of the local merchants sold packages to the US Troops in the bazaar, and I found the flavor to be very similar to the teas served by the sheiks in the area. Later on, I became attached to a Joint Operations Center and continued using Alwazah to make connections and build up a repertoire with my Jundi counterparts in the Iraqi Army. This is about as close as it gets to actual Middle Eastern chai available stateside.

I originally found this tea in a store in Nashville, TN, but have since moved. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find it in any of my local stores. This tea is worth the effort of ordering when unavailable locally.
It has an excellent taste, particularly for those who enjoy the non-bagged variety. You simply heat water in a kettle and once it begins to boil, take it off the heat. Put a spoon full or two inside it to steep (depending on amount of water used). A few minutes later and it is ready to go. I recommend using a small stainer to pour the tea through and into your cup.
For a comparison, I would say Al Wazah tastes similar to Earl Grey, but a bit richer in taste.
